In order to make the English teaching quality in suburban junior middle schools meetthe increasing needs of the development of our country, the researcher does his researchwork based on the fact that it is urgent to raise the English teachers’ professionalquality in suburban area as it is too low by using different research methods such assurvey research method,method of comparative analysis,action research method, andso on. Firstly the researcher analyzes some characters of school-based teacher training,character of individual difference, character of question-oirented, character of mainbody participation, character of pertinence, character of flexibility. Secondly he talksabout the function of the school-based teacher training on the development of all theschools, the teachers and the students. Then he opens out the relationship between theschool-based teacher training and the teachers’ professional development. After that theauthor puts forward eight strategies (goal-dirven strategy, the social effect strategy,circular practice reflection strategy, profession revision strategy, question-oirentedstrategy,level-guided practice strategy, file record strategy) to promote suburban juniormiddle school English teachers1professional quality by school-based training. And,theresearcher did an empirical research in Shanghai W Junior School. Through the casestudy, the paper summairzed the successful expeirence of English teacher,sprofessional development in suburban junior schools. At the same time, the paperpoints out the problems waiting to be solved such as enhancing the effectiveness ofactivities, concerning about the trainees’ recent development areas, focus most on theteaching, care about the trainees’ dynamic development. And at last the more appropirate measures are proposed.
