As a senior high school chemistry teacher, the author haswitnessed10years of students’ and teachers’ change. The author wasfull of confidence at first, but now feel terribly fatigued. A number ofteachers are looking forward to retirement. The author worked on thisresearch so as to have a deep understanding of chemistry teachers’job burnout, explore various reasons for job burnout, help teachers toimprove the quality of life, and help to improve the quality of chemistryteaching in senior high schools.Three questionnaires are designed for this research to study jobburnout and composition of high school chemistry teachers inChanging District Shanghai, and the influential factors of job burnout.Limited by time and energy, the author selected30subjects. We canlearn form the investigation that job burnout degree of generalrespondents is not high. Comparatively speaking, the male teachers’burnout degree is higher than female teachers’. Those who are marriedand have children feel more tired but more enthusiastic. Those whohave taught for six to ten years have a stronger feeling of fatigue.According to the different types of senior high schools, the teachers inprivate school feel the most tired, followed by teachers in key highschools. The head teachers feel more fatigued than the other teachersbut more enthusiastic. The job burnout degree of the teachers whosesalary is lower proves much higher.Many factors can cause the job burnout of teachers, amongwhich the low income is the major one. Other factors include: longworking hours, worry about the test scores, spending a large amount oftime on students who pay no attention to chemistry, variousresponsibilities about students, having difficulty in handling the multipleroles in work and life, and the limitation to professional development. According to an interview of a female teacher, the authorlearns more about the professional development of the chemistryteacher, and realizes that the job burnout is temporary, which can beeased in many ways.Society, schools and teachers should work together to handlethe job burnout of high school chemistry teacher. Firstly, the sense ofhonor and income of teachersshould be increased. Secondly, schools should establish a studyorganization more suitable for the overall development of teachers.Thirdly, teachers themselves should pay more attention to theprofessional development and balance the relationship between thecareer and the family.
