Since ancient times, there are family mottos in China. Also, thereare original school mottos, but they are not labeled clearly as schoolmottos. After the Sino-Japanese war,“school motto” was introducedfrom Japan. Under the double impact of the concept of the conceptof Japans "school motto" and the Western Church school training, theoriginal Chinese school motto need to be conceptual, and the ancientmotto is gradually transformed into the modern school motto. ModernChina emerged a large number of famous school motto bothtraditional cultural and the characteristics of the times. Each school hasexperienced a period of years to form a cultural and school motto. Theschool motto constitute an important part of cultural in schools. Thecentury school motto of the study is rich of cultural heritage after thehistory of hundred years. The century school motto plays importantrole in school education, as the name card of school, as the schoolimage of endorsement, as the school advertisements and schoolbrand.This article focuses on two questions: One is what makes the schoolmotto to live after a century long time, and with new vitality? Authormakes Fudan High School as the object of study. The school motto "Learn, aspire, ask and think" show a strong vitality with the schoolsdevelopment and progress. Another is why the century school mottoconnotation of the times, as well as the status of current practice in thevarious aspects of the school run in order to explore how school mottoto maintain the vitality.This article studies the school motto, including the origin andconnotation and characteristics of the school motto. This article alsostudies the construction of school motto and relationship of the schoolmotto and school culture. It introduces the Shanghai Fudan High School history and the status. This article recalled the establishment ofschool motto " Learn, aspire, ask and think". The concept ofdevelopment, management concept, the concept of students,teaching concept; and study the " Learn, aspire, ask and think" aroundthe four centers of moral education, teaching, research, and studentsin the practical work of the school. Through this exploration, the vitalityof century school motto is ultimately derived from the culture of theschool. The vitality of the school motto lies in the fact that the motto isthe core content of the school culture. As Professor Lan Ye proposition:"The real future-oriented school culture is precisely rooted in the culturalsoil of tradition and reality, which gives birth to a culture beyond thehistory and reality of the school culture and should reflect the future.”This article makes Fudan High School as the example of moraleducation ideological and political schools with similar backgrounds.The school’s education, teaching, research and the schoolsmanagement provides some useful practices and case, in particular,which can provide the perspective of an instructive and referencevalue for the historic school development.
