Research On Social Support Of Rural Eldly

Nowadays the population of rural elderly has reached to18.6percent.The current situation of rural aging population is quite grim. At the same time, the rural elderly has a high suicide rate. According to China Ministry of Health Statistics Yearbook2004,101in one million people between75and80years old will sucide and132in one million people over80years old will sucide in rural areas in2003. The problem of rural elderly is rather outstanding and attract much attention from scholars. Many scholars study on this problem from different angles such as social security, psychology, sociology. In my oppion,social support is closely related to our daily life,so research on it can make us understand a person’s truly life better. Because of this the investigation of the social support of rural elderly became the topic of this research.Based on the sociological theory, such as social support and hierarchy of needs, using the method of questionnaire survey and individual interview and choosing the rural eldly of Tang Shan He Bei Province as the research object, this paper describe the obtain and source of rural eldly’s social support and discusses the impact of individual factors and family factors on it.The conclusion shows that:most rural eldly have received a normal degree of social support. And most rural eldly have received a better emotion support(63.5%) than practical support(58.2%) than social support(45.4%).The inform support dominated by the household is the subject and base of rural elderly social support. And the form support is limite only in economic and social.What is more, individual factors and family factors both have an impact on the social support of rural elderly throuth cross-table,One-way ANOVA,T-test analyise. The individual factors include gender,age and occupation.The research shows that men have a better ill care support than women. Besides,with the increase of age,the rule eldly can get less emotion and social support. Also the eldly who has a job and the salary is higer can get a better social support.Family factors include the family income, wither live with wife or husband,and wither live with children.The research shows that higher family income can get better economic support. Live with wife or husband can get a better emotion and social support. The who doesn’t live with children can get a weaker housework assistant support.According to the empirieal study resultj think in order to improve the social support work of rule eldly the govertment,society and family should work together. First, the building of a social security system should be vigorously promoted in rural areas and the relative laws and rules should be improved at the same time. Second, encourage the development of social service for rural elderly. At last we should establish the new model of family support of old age...
