Used for the first time in "Ant Tribe"-a Record on the community of college graduates, an essay written by Lian Si, associate professor in Peking University, the word "Ant Tribe" refers to the group of poorly-paid college graduates who have poor living condition and who feel strongly about a lack of social security and absence of civil rights. More often than not, they are skeptical of social equality and suffer a great deal from a sense of frustration and anxiety. Worse still,"Ant tribe" is unwilling to reveal the truth to their family and become strongly dependent upon the Internet as the outlet for their complaints and sentiments. If university enrollment expansion is at the bottom of the occurrence of "Ant Tribe", what this phenomenon reflects is no other than the decrease of social mobility and an absence of equity mechanism. With personal experience of social injustice and a relatively acuter sense of being exploited, the psychological problems of the Ant Tribe are developing to a disturbing degree, which, if not taken seriously, will surely have an extremely negative impact on social stability. The situation cannot be delayed no more. This essay attempts to analyze the reasons for the occurrence of the "Ant Tribe" in the light of social exclusion theory, including economic exclusion, structural exclusion, functional exclusion and objective exclusion, and ends up with the conclusion that the problems the "Ant Tribe" have at present include the issues of civil right, social security, psychological health and the lurking social crisis. In the end, this essay puts forward the proposals and possible solutions from the perspective of the government, higher-learning institution, and the "Ant Tribe" themselves respectively.
