The university students*ideological and political education in China is an importantpart in higher education. In the new times, the education needs to be more life-related,hidden and sustainable, which requires creative use of all the media that can be used forthe innovation of the education. The extracurricular technical activities for universitystudents are such a good medium. As an important channel to promote development oftalented university students and a key part of the higher education for all-rounddevelopment, such activities are always closely connected with the ideological andpolitical education. They enrich the contents,and also expand the scope of theideological and political education for university students.In view of this, breaking through the discussion limitations of such activities in a lotof practices, this paper, based on descriptions on the historical processes and currentcharacteristics of the education and such activities, theoretically and practically exploresthe general principle and basic form and approach enhancing university students*ideological and political education with the medium of extracurricular technical activities,by using basic principles and methods of the theory of Marxism, organically combiningthose activities and the education in terms of importance of and feasibility and analyzingthe ideological and political education functions that those activities have.The paper consists of four parts as follows:Part1analyzes the internal meaninghistory and current situation of the media ofthe ideological and political education,explaining the significance of the mediumbuilding to the education.Part2studies the importance andfeasibility of using extracurricular technicalactivities as a medium of universit’y students ideological and political education. Atferintroducing the main contents and historical process of those activities, the paperproposes that the use of those activities as a medium to strengthen ideological andpolitical education is an innovation and a hidden way to the education and meets therequirement to make ideological and political education sustainable in new times. Thehigh popularity, attractiveness and influence of those activities among university studentshave provided a realistic feasibility.Part3analyzes the functions of those activities to ideological and politicaleducation. Through the analysis on the active roles that those activities play in buildingpersonality, developing the spirit of innovation and strengthening ideological and moraleducation of university students, this part further clarifies the theoretical basis, base on which those activities as a medium can enhance university students’ ideological andpolitical education.Part4is the purpose of the study that is to explore the forms and approaches usingextracurricular technical activities as a medium to strengthen university students’ideological and political education. The paper sets forth that using this medium mustadhere to the general principles human-oriented, harmonious and uniifed,moving withthe times and seeking for practical results, that there are three basic forms-technicalcontest, subject project and technical society and that it can be implemented by means ofimproving the overall awareness, enhancing guarantee mechanism,strengtheningtheoretical study and focusing on application of the study results.
