The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is a newly multi-sport event initiated by theInternational Olympic Committee (IOC) in recent years for the young people aged from14-18.The essential difference between the Youth Olympic Games and the Olympic Games exist inthe aspects of culture and education. In this study,by means of such research methods asliterature, case study and interview, characteristics of YOG were explored in the first place,and then deep analysis has been conducted on factors, means and channels of culture andeducation in YOG, based on which with Singapore Youth Olympic Games as a case, culturaland educational activities have been comprehensively analyzed, and finally correspondingcountermeasures for Nanjing Youth Olympic Games have been put forward. The conclusionsare as follows.First, Youth Olympic Games are a multi-sport event integrating sports, cutlture andeducation, whose characteristics can be summarized as focus on the Global Youth, theintegration between sport competition and culture and education; promotion of YouthAmbassadors; the size and philosophy of match; signet and symbol of success-theembodiment of happiness.Second, the cultural and educational activities of the Youth Olympic Games arecomposed of many elements, mainly including the target, objects,, content and means andchannles.Third, a cultural and education programs in the Singapore Youth Olympic Games arespecifically developed,and designed for different target groups with five educational theme,Each of which is divided into a number of cultural and educational activities. The planincludes: cultural and educational planning workshops (CEP Seminar), friendship BusinessPlan, Friendship Camp, contact with the youth programs (Reaching out to Youth), athlete’sCulture and Education Programme (CEP for Athletes) and Public Culture and EducationProgramme (CEP for Public).Fourth, the design plans for the athletes in the cultural and educational programs in theSingapore Youth Olympic Games is the most important part of the whole scheme, sevenforms of activities are: to give full play to the Olympic champion role models and championsin the scheme dialogue activities; learn the excellent Olympic values of "self-discoveryactivities"; to fully experience the multicultural "World Culture Village activities"; toencourage young athletes for the community to contribute to community activities; fun-filledatmosphere of the "artistic and cultural activities; cultivate team spirit "island adventure";highlight the environmental philosophy of "adventure activities". Five, cultural and educational activities of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games willsupply many a inspirations for Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, which are embodied in thefollowing areas aspects that cultural and educational activities are embodied by, interactive,entertaining and interesting; that cultural and educational activities reflect the National andcultural characteristics of host country; that cultural and educational activities should relyon the support of various government departments; the "Young Ambassador Schemelaunched by IOC should be to be retained in the future; the contents of cultural andeducational activites for athletes should be more concrete and rich; and that Olympiceducation program of Beijing Model should be referred.
