As a subsystem of Chinese traditional cultural, Beijing wushu has inevitablyinteracted with the other cultural system in the long history of development to formparticular characteristics of its own.In order to study the wushu culture of a certain area,we have to confine it to a certain time, as wushu cultral in the same area will be differentin different time.It’s important to study the charateristics of Beijing wushu during theCultural Revolution in order to get a thorough understanding of Beijing wushu,but littlehas known about it.Therefor,this paper will study the characteristics of Beijing wushuduring Cultural Revolution by interviewing the elder who has lived through this period.Specifically, we will study the influence of the Cultural Revolution on Beijing wushu,and how Beijing wushu survive through this period by developing with its own rule aswell as fiting in with the needs of politics.Based on literature, interviwing, video,case study,logic analysis were conducted toclassify the materials.Analysise shows that:(1) At the beginning of the Cultural Revolution, Wushu waslisted as one of the four olds and a product of feudalism and capitalism. Coaches ofprofessional wushu team and folk wushu expert were persecuted;(2) In the middle of theCultural Revolution,in order to survive, wushu fit in with the politcial needs to createsome new set patterns such as Chairman Mao Ana exercise and long lifeshadowboxing;(3) At the end of the Cultural Revolution, with the effort of professionalteam and the its own vitality, wushu survived and recovered. Further, we analyse theperticular wushu skills unique to this peroid by reserch into the newpapers and literatureto show the change of wushu skills during Culture Revolution.
