Strength quality has an important position in basketball, and has a great impact to the playing of technical and tactical level for basketball player, but lack of researches on strength building for men’s basketball group A players in university at present. So taking the players from the men’s basketball group A team of Guangzhou university and Guangdong university of technology as an object of the study, and based the current theory about strength building of basketball, to deeply analysis the characteristics of strength building for men’s basketball group A players in universities of Guangzhou area, then explore its success and deficiencies.This paper is used the methods of literature consultation, interviews, observation, measurement, mathematical statistics and logic analysis. Then obtain the following conclusions:(1)The athletes muscle strength is still in the growth period for the two research teams. But the growth rate of the strength is gradually decreased, they accept the system of strength training is not enough time.(2)During the training drills, the two teams have the systematic strength training arrangements from the beginning of training drills to the week before the competition.It have2to3times strength training class in a week, a reasonable interval between each class, and each strength training class time is in half an hour to one hour.(3)Guangzhou University Men’s Group A basketball player strength training methods mainly is circulative training method, and as a primary means of hand exercises; Guangdong University of Technology are repeated training method mainly to the exercise equipment as the main means. Force characteristics of the means of strength training as same as basketball action, to focus on the development of some of the major muscle groups; strength training means arrangements are not enough, you can not reach the power of a comprehensive and balanced development.(4)The two team athletes training load arrangements mainly are small and medium strength, and arrange a larger number of exercises. They practice with the fast explosive method, can promote the development of rapid strength endurance, power will be slightly improved, but the poor development of maximum strength.(5) Strength training with technical and tactical training of the athletes of the two teams are more reasonable. Finishing as the end of the training classes, shooting practice need the athletes to pay attention to develop correct shooting habits.
