| Higher vocational education is an important part of higher education in China.Within our higher vocational education system, the development of school-basedcurriculum is also the primary content of the new curriculum reform. Under theguideline of " service for purpose, orientation towards employment and professionaltraining as mainline", the development of school-based curriculum towards physicaleducation can not only effectively boost the development of vocational institutes, butalso get great space for growth by itself. It has became a major part of curriculumreform in accordance with the "12th five-year planning " from various vocationalinstitutions. This research is based on curriculum theory and uses many P.E. teachersand administrative officers in charge of physical education from several vocationalinstitutes in Hunan province as the research objects. Several study methods are alsoapplied to support this paper, such as document searching, questionaries and interviewsurvey, mathematical statistics and logic analysis. The paper depicts the main situationof P.E. Development in Hunan vocational institutions, and also investigates andanalyses the current problems and constrains accompanying to the P.E. development.The effective and feasible approaches to better P.E. development in Hunan vocationalinstitutions are also proposed in this paper.The research has found that the main accomplishments of school-based curriculumdevelopment toward P.E. in higher vocational institutions are: making fully use of theteachers with educational resources; satisfying students’ demands for professional skills,competence and function; promoting the formation of a lifelong physical trainingawareness; diversifying the revaluation format of P.E performance and so on. There arealso several problems in the course of developing school-based curriculum toward P.E..For example, the incentives to progress effective school-based P.E.curriculum are notsufficient; P.E. teachers’ realization toward course development and P.E. teachers’capability of developing P.E. curriculum are insufficient to meet the developmentrequirement; the size of current developed school-based curriculum toward P.E. islimited; the combined evaluation structure of a subjects-means-methods system has notbeen established. The main reasons restricting the development of school-basedcurriculum toward P.E. in Hunan are: inappropriate attitudes from school administrator,inefficient management strategies, incomplete recognition from P.E. teachers to coursereform and limited academic resources. In this paper, some strategies have beenproposed to improve the development of school-based curriculum toward P.E. Forinstance, enhancing public awareness; updating the realization of curriculumdevelopment out of school leaders and P.E teachers; inspiring P.E teachers’ motivationto reform course; focusing on training to improve P.E. teachers’ capability ofdeveloping curriculum; withholding career-promoted principle under school basis;following basic development procedures; exploring resources to upgrade P.E. textbookinformation and reinforcing course evaluation to form curriculum-based developmenttoward P.E. that involves the Hunan characteristics. |
