Wei-Chi (Go in Japanese and Baduk in Korean) is a treasure in the China traditional culture."Chi-Tao"(a way or spirit of Wei-Chi) is a general term of many cultural phenomena about the spirit of Wei-Chi. This paper taking it "Both attains to the sublime and yet performs the common tasks." as a clue to explore the relation between the two. This paper is divided into two parts. The first part is the Metaphysics of Chi-Tao which is divided into both sides. On the one side,"Xiang" is a discussion of the unique expression form of Wei-Chi. The expression form of Wei-Chi is different from ordinary language, but composed of board and chess pieces. On the other side,"Chi" is a discussion of the basic rules of Wei-Chi. The principle of "Chi" confirms the Taoism’s principle of the nature movement:Its ontology is "Chi"; Its movement tendency is opposite and complementary. The second part is the function of Chi-Tao which is divided into both sides too. On the one side, it is about the Chi-Tao generation discussion. In my opinion, there are three signs of the generation of Chi-Tao:The popularity and prosperity of the activities of Wei-Chi; The beginning of the classification of Wei-Chi player; And the generation of professional writings of Chi-Tao. On the other side, it is the discussion of the content of the Chi-Tao is based on two questions as clues:One is how to approach Chi-Tao as an individual; And the second is how to find the status in the Chi-Tao as an individual.Chi-Tao is the Tao which is the principle of "sageness within and kingliness without", it is also, from the point of the view of is comprehensive use by man as a method," the attainment of the sublime and the performance of the common tasks." This is what the T’ien Hsia Chapter emphasize.
