Since the80s of20th century, people enforce prenatal sex determination andselective abortion with medical technology, resulting in the higher sex ratio andfemale deficit, Ultimately leading to male squeeze in the marriage market in China.Based on mate gradient theory, the object of the Marriage squeeze is the men who arerelatively lack of resources in rural China, where the local economic situation iscomparatively worse. Domestic micro-study of rural involuntary bachelors havestarted, such as divorced reason, social support and integration, psychological welfareand Pension issue, etc., but the social capital research has not been found. The data comes from "gender imbalance and social stability" survey organizedby this issue group from November2009to March2010across the country. Theauthor attempts to examine social capital status and factors of involuntary bachelors. From existing research, we see that the common indicator of social capital is relatedwith social networks, and large loan in rural and social capital are scarce resources, sothis paper attempts to examine social capital status of involuntary bachelors from theloan network perspective, in order to find whether differences in marital status andgeographical location will affect their social capital. The main content of this paper includes three parts:(1) The paper analyzes socialcapital status from loan network size and composition, and uses LR/t test and varianceanalysis method to compare involuntary bachelors’ social capital status from differentmarital status and different regions.(2)The paper regards marital status andgeographic differences as main independent variables, personal factors and familyfactors as control variables, and uses OLS regression and binary Logistic regressionanalysis to study social capital factors of involuntary bachelors in rural.(3) Based onthe research findings, the thesis comes up with some policy recommendations onimproving rural involuntary bachelors’ social capital. The main conclusions of this paper include:(1) rural men of different maritalstatus are significantly different on the volume and the source of social capital.Involuntary bachelors possess less social capital and get more help from relatives thanother connections.(2) involuntary bachelors in different regions are significantly different on the volume and the source of social capital. involuntary bachelors inwestern China possess more social capital than those in the east and in the middle, andeastern bachelors are more dependent on relatives.(3) Marital status has no effect onsocial capital of rural men and geographical factor does the same on the bachelors’.(4)personal factors, such as age, personality, income, have significant effects on ruralinvoluntary bachelors’ social capital.Family factors, such as whether relatives areworking in the government or people belong to large family, have the same effect. Ifinvoluntary bachelor with characteristic of younger, outgoing personality, higherincome, relatives serving in the government and belonging to large family, he willpossess abundant social capital.
