With the development of the society as well as the internal regulation of education, the credits system has been gradually adopted by universities in China. The credits system reflects concept of people-oriented education, focusing on the development of individualized and personality, so they can choose the courses as their interests. Under this circumstance, the organization and method of student activities reveals several features as highly discrete distribution of time and place, weaken of function of class, distant relationship etc. These features bring a severe challenge for the traditional way of ideological and political education for college students, for instance, teacher focus policy, one-way implantation; strengthen on whole instead of personality. In this way, the idea, method, pattern and content of ideological and political education need adjustment and change in order to adapt to the new trend. Based on problems stated above, this paper is thinking still further about this issue.This paper is made up of four parts:The first part states the origin and history of credits system both in and abroad, especially objectively analysis the connotation, features. It raises that the credits system has five advantages, and also the credit causes several new problems to university.Second part analyses the current status of college student ideological and political education. Firstly through the questionnaire, summaries the characteristics of thought and behavior of students under the credits system, reaches the problems in front of ideological and political education. According to the deep research into the questionnaires, raises five challenges the credits system brings to ideological and political education of college students.The third part analyses the special group-prolong educational system students result from the credits system. From the contradictions between expansion of higher education in China and the lack of teachers in universities, the setting of programs and the lack of teaching resources, self-control ability and society to draw the conclusion of the reason of prolong education system and its impact on universities, society, family and the students themselves.The fourth part raises the policy to the ideological and political education under the credits system. What is to say, according to the new condition, features and problems the students may face, the author has several suggestions:First is to create innovative ideological and political education content, including strengthen on dream, faith and responsibility, increase of planning of college life and self-value education. Second is to improve the method of ideological and political education, including setting model and strengthening infiltration education, promote the college students’double tutorial system etc. Third is to broad the way of ideological and political education under the credits system, including strengthen on dormitory culture, the students association functions and builds harmony relationship between students and teachers. Fourth is to raise four policies aim at prolong educational system students, firstly take care of the prolong educational system students with love and passion, set a’people-oriented’point of view, respect and1treat these students equally. The second is to have prolong educational system students psychological counseling, in order to eliminate self-abased psychology of prolong educational system students, arouse their learning motivation and set them to graduate as early as possible; The third is to strengthen the prolong educational system class management, strengthen the daily learning order monitoring and management; The fourth is form school, family two-way monitoring system, in order to reduce the unnecessary misunderstanding results from less contact between school and home.
