A Research On The Current Status And Countermeasures Of Xiamen Municipality’s Colleges’ Cycle Racing

The main purpose of this paper is to find out the influence factors and makes some suggestions by studying and analyzing the current status of bicycle racing in some universities in Xiamen. The additional purpose is to provide a theory foundation for the development of bicycle racing in the universities in Xiamen and a reference for other universities in China.This paper applies the methods of literatures, interviewing, questionnaire survey, field investigation, mathematical statistics and logical analysis. The findings are that the bicycle racing is one of the favorite exercises among students because of its functions of fitness and recreation, green and environmental protection, beneficial to all ages. Currently, bicycle racing is just at the spontaneous stage. Clubs and college unions have a certain scale and mass foundation. At present, further development and popularization of bicycle racing in the university students in Xiamen still have some obstacles: First, the participants tend to the younger and more male than female; the favorite style is outdoor spots, but because of the limits of time and environment, the campus becomes the most frequent place for bicycle racing. Clubs are the favorite mode. Because few races have been hold by clubs, most of students have to choose to ride by oneself. Bicycle racers have poor sense of safety. They seldom wear helmets. The main reasons of influencing participation are time limit, lack of companions and low purchasing power, etc. Second, for organizers, members are tending to be junior, the problem of funds for activity forces the superiors only to do something for approval instead of directing the development of bicycle racing. Third, as for curriculum development, there are no universities offering this kind of course, which is a disadvantage for the development and popularization of bicycle racing. Fourth, as far as racing is concerned, the favorite races by students are those which perform among universities, however this kind of races are few and on a small scale. It makes it difficult to promote bicycle racing.According to current status, this paper provides some corresponding measures for bicycle racing in the universities in Xiamen. First, bicycle racing needs support from universities, for example, opening bicycle racing curriculum, providing financial support and coordinating relevant departments to promote bicycle racing. Second, the management of clubs should be improved, aim for development should be clarified and influence should be expanded. Third, the government should provide full support, such as building complete and successive bicycle-tracks, enhancing the construction and management of bicycle parking, coordinating large scale activities and providing promotion ways. Fourth, hold all kinds of races, accelerating equip construction. Fifth, strengthen safety education and management. At last, lead reasonable consumption.
