In the sixties to seventies of the20th century, world economy developed rapidly, as aresult,more and more people can have opportunities to receive modern education Moderneducation aims to develop and improve the students’quality, and emphasizes the developmentof every student. English teaching in junior middle schools plays an important role infoundational education. But the universal existence of underachievers in English languagelearning becomes a headache problem for schools, teachers and parents. These students notonly hinder the advance of English teaching quality, but also bring huge pressure to thefamily and the society.What’s more, underachievers have bad influence to their mentalhealth.So it is necessary. to help these English underachieversThis thesis attempts to find out study attitudes and learning strategies of Englishunderachivers and put forward some educational strategies: developing their interest in thestudy, learning motivation,arousing their learning aims and guiding students to have thecorrect attribution. Meanwhile, this research tries to teach students learning strategies, givesthem some advice to improve their English, encourage the students to go further education. Inaddition, the underachievers in English langugage learning will have the ability to continuetheir lifelong learning. The purpose of this research is also to improve the present Englishteaching condition in junior middle schoolsThe guiding theories in the present survey research include:I.Learning strategies theoryII.The attribution-theory proposed by American psychologist B.WeinerBased on domestic and foreign studies and in the form of survey, this thesis compares thedifferences between the learning attitude and learning strategy of the students who havedifficulty in learning English and those who are good at English learning and draws theconclusion that the learning attitude of the students who have difficulty in learning Englishobviously are negative in the course of learning and strategies of these are not properlyused.And with the guidance of relevant theories based on the survey and analysis, this authorfound out the reasons are as follows:.IThe internal causation mainly includes: non-intelligence factors, study attitude、 strategy and attribution. II. The external causation mainlyincludes: the influence of the society, home factors and school management., the teachingfactors and relations between teachers and pupils.Based on the related theoretical research and the analysis of study attitude and studystrategy of English underachievers in junior middle school, some strategies to help them improve are put forward: I.Cultivating: I.Cultivate good non-intelligence factors. II. Teachingthe students to make the correct attribution. III. Training English study strategies. IV.Raisingthe quality of English teachers, including: Strengthening management ability, strengtheningeducation intelligence and enhancing professional spirit. V. Establishing democracy equal newrelation of teachers and pupils.This thesis makes a comprehensive survey and analysis on the negative study attitudes ofEnglish underachivers and puts forward many suggestions. The suggestions will help topromote their English learning attitudes and learning strategies and lead to improvement inEnglish language teaching in junior middle schools...
