A Case Study Of Performance Management Of Student Advisors In Independent College A

Independent college, as the new product of China’s highly developed system of higher education, has seen its own characteristics and prominence rise. The team of student advisors is an important strength to student management, teaching and research of such a school. The team’s being stable and professional can be a key factor to the long-term development of an independent college. But the distinction between an independent college and a public university on running schools and administrative management can lead to various problems on performance management of the student advisors, which can be seen in the following areas:the present system of performance management is not consistent with the actual situation of the independent college; performance evaluation is not comprehensive; the index of performance evaluation is not objective, etc. The above problems have caused the instability of the advisors’team, high rate of labor turnover, negative work attitude, no clear career plan, etc. All these can seriously affect the development of an independent college since they may affect work attitude and reduce work efficiency.This paper runs a thorough analysis of performance management system of the student advisors in College A by interpreting relevant policies, setting the performance indicators, and analyzing key performance indicators with the application of KPI method. Based on the analysis, it applies360degree evaluation method on performance assessment and performance evaluation to get feedback and improvement. In view of the problems existed in the present performance management system, it proposes to improve the system of performance management in Independent College A.
