With the development of modern science and technology, an increasing numberof computational tools for the people to use, the way people calculated no longersatisfied with the accurate calculation, the calculation concept has changed, so, todetermine the accuracy of the results, or estimated a reasonable answer seemsparticularly important. Therefore, the ability to estimate has become part of the veryimportant at this stage of primary school mathematics teaching, but also is animportant capability for elementary school student. Since the "new standards" of ourcountry promulgated in2001contented estimate, and put forward specificrequirements. But our country’s mathematics teach of primary school is onlyconcerned about the accurate calculation and no estimate of teaching experience, soestimates in primary school teaching to be implemented well is certain difficulty.I use literature analysis, questionnaire survey, interviews and other researchmethods from both teachers and students at this stage of primary school students inchina to study the problem of the ability to estimate and the strategy of estimating,research the following conclusions:(1) teacher’s awareness of estimates and the knowledge of estimation have adistance between various types of teachers, the overall score is not high. Teacherplayed an important role to develop the ability of estimate to students, but because ofthe restrictions of a lot of problems, the formation of student’s strategies to estimateand the understanding of estimate are certain restricted by teachers.(2). The awareness of estimates and ability to estimate of student of the firstphase are in the formation stage, although the ability of estimate is not strong but havea certain sense of estimates, but not flexible enough to use the estimation strategy.(3). Awareness of estimates of second phase student has formed a certain shape,master a certain amount of estimation methods, the ability to estimate of student inthis phase are overall increased, tend to a degree of stability.(4). The use of estimation strategies, since the third grade, students useestimation strategies for the practical problems more flexible and accurate, the use ofestimation strategies still need to improve. In general, it reached a certain level of‘course standard’ requirements.(5). Estimation and number sense, pupil’s number sense training has beenpenetrated in the whole process of teaching. However, due to the exam requirements for the accurate calculation and so on, let the branch of the number sense,estimates isnot be place importance on it deserved and lack of appropriate attention,this isdetrimental to the development of the awareness of estimate and to the ability toestimate.
