With the external economic and cultural exchanges becoming more frequent, English language has become a necessary communication tool. In China, English courses are set up in primary school, junior high school, senior high school and university in many areas; even in preschool education courses are provided in English, which shows that English language has infiltrated the Chinese education.In the process of TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), the focus should be on the development of students’language competence to use English appropriately when communicating with English speakers. However, in spite of the fact that the average level of spoken English nowadays has been impressively higher than a decade ago, their communicative ability in spoken English is still inadequate, in comparison with their ability of listening, writing and especially with the students’reading comprehension which is most remarkably advanced. Now, oral English teaching has become an important part of English teaching. Many teachers and experts, in the exploration of oral English teaching, have expressed their views and opinions on this subject from different angles, and achieved certain results. But it is less mentioned how to effectively integrate the research learning and the teaching of oral English in middle school, and to explore a kind of new teaching mode.Based on this, extensively drawing lessons from domestic and foreign advanced teaching methods and combining the features of spoken English with the actual situation of senior high school students, the author made a proposal that research study should be applied to the teaching of spoken English in senior high school. It is designed to enable students to understand the importance of oral communication and it can effectively develop students’ oral communication ability and effective learning strategies. What’s more, it aims to enable students to master a language, at the same time; it makes students take English as a powerful tool and use it freely for oral communication, in order to obtain the basic language application capacity.This article takes oral English teaching as a starting point, and takes the oral teaching in No.4Middle School in Zhuzhou as an example, to explore the oral English teaching of middle school according to the application of research study theory. First, based on the questionnaire, teaching practice, I found more details in the present situation of spoken English teaching, the students’ personal feelings and needs in high school and the possible innovation of this subject. Second, based on the analysis of the current situation of spoken English teaching in high schools, teachers and students, I combined these phenomena and the theoretical characteristics of the research study, and made it clear that the feasibility and importance of the teaching model of the integration of English research study and oral teaching. In practice, I carried out the teaching experiment on two classes, through which to explore the "topic inquiry" mode of oral English teaching-the combination of research study and oral English teaching in senior high school. The mode is applied to the oral English teaching in experimental class at the same time, while in the comparing class this mode is not used and teacher only follows the prescribed order. Then through the analysis of experiments and results of two different classes, I explored the practical value of the research study in high school oral English teaching. According to the essay, the theory of research study applies to English teaching in high school, and if used properly, it can be sufficient to attract students’interest, so as to improve the oral English teaching quality and improve students’comprehensive qualities. Finally, I put forward some thinking and constructive proposals, aiming to better improve and promote the oral English teaching of senior high school.
