Reading is one important skill among the four skills of learning English---listening,speaking, reading and writing. According to New English National Curriculum Standards forHigh School (2003), learning strategies have been regarded as the content and goal of Englishteaching in high school, it also declares that English teachers should help students formeffective learning strategies and regulate them. Reading strategies are learners’ various skillsand methods of raising their reading ability. Many researchers have spent many time andefforts on reading strategies and the usage of reading strategies, while the number of thestudies on training reading strategies is small especially the studies combining trainingreading strategies and the usage of reading strategies. The studies combining training readingstrategies and the usage of reading strategies are helpful in raising learners’ reading ability.This thesis investigates high school students’ usage of reading strategies and their attitudetoward training reading strategies, and then the writer analyzed the data and carried outreading strategies training in two equal classes.In senior school, teachers pay more attention to teaching reading, while the learners’reading ability is not satisfying. The writer employed the quantitative and qualitative analysisin this thesis. In the end, it is proved that training reading strategies can improve learners’reading ability.Two classes of Grade2in NO.1Middle School of Guang Zong County were chosen.The writer analyzed the data from questionnaire quantitatively and found the effectivereading strategies frequently used by high group students. Then the two classes receivedreading strategy training. The results of the experiment reveal that the reading scores of theexperimental class are significantly raised.The findings are as follows:1. Students in senior high school do not use reading strategies frequently.2. English reading strategy training can influence the scores of reading and raiselearners’ reading ability.3. Learners support training English reading strategy in English classroom.Lastly, the writer gave some suggestions to English teaching for the purpose of raising learners’ independent learning ability.
