In September2005, JiangSu province takes on the new curriculum reform and in2006the national ministry of education began to organize the experts to conduct theresearch on the local course and school-based curriculum of the development sports,which is the key topic of the fifteen education scientific planning. At that time therewere18key middle schools trying to adopt option teaching. As the relatively developedarea on economy and education in JiangSu Province, Suzhou Industrial Park is theimportant part for the school-based curriculum reform, which will inevitably providessome reference to the schools going to have the sports curriculum reforms. By usingdifferent research methods, including literature consultation, interview, mathematicalstatistics, logical analysis and case study, the present study analyzes and investigates thecurrent situation of PE school-based curriculum in middle schools of Suzhou IndustrialPark, summarize the characteristics and the problems existed in reality, and givesuggestions accordingly. The research results show: the chosen schools in SuzhouIndustrial Park have establish their own school-based curriculum or distinctive sportsprograms; elective teaching mode helps most students grasp one or two sports skills,and also it helps students develop good habits of physical exercise and lifelongawareness of physical exercise; the choice of textbooks will further promote thestudents’ interest in participating in physical exercise; in the process of attending thedevelopment of PE school-based curriculum, the teachers’ teaching and research abilitywill be enhanced; the teacher-students relationship will be eased. By investigation, someexisting problems in the middle school in Suzhou Industrial Park have been discovered:Some teachers are still not very familiar with the PE school-based curriculum so that there are some wrong understandings, some are still holding a wait-and-see attitude,some could hardly meet the requirements of new course, thinking that it is curriculumexperts’ responsibility or even objecting to it. Finally a conclusion is made: Thedevelopment of PE school-based curriculum among the middle schools in SuzhouIndustrial Park could contribute to teachers’ professional development and the formationand development of school characteristic projects, it could also meet the students’requirements for joining physical exercise and enhancing health, develop their sportsskills, cultivate their awareness of all-life exercise and therefore further promote theschool’s education ability as well as capacity for running the school.
