Because of network course’s numerous advantages, it is chosen and used bymore and more learners. In the procedure of web-based learning, the quality of networkcourse will influence learners’ efficiency. And the interface is the information and source towhich learners face directly. It does not only affect the appearance but also learners’interest and motivation. A well-designed interface enables learners to accept andunderstand, thus they will use and grasp easily. And a poorly-designed interface results inlearners’ inconvenience, even disgusts and repulses them.Based on in-depth analysis of Mayer’s cognitive theory of multimedia learning and thetheory of instruction message design, this study discusses interface design of networkcourse. It aims to apply the two theories to designing the interface of network course, enables the interface to be more and more in line with the law of learners’ cognition andpromotes learners’learning results.Firstly, we elaborate and analyze profoundly the cognitive theory of multimedialearning and the theory of instruction message design, then establish a detailed reviewliterature of research status of network courses and their interface design. Meanwhile, according to the form of interview, we analyze the current situation of network coursesinterface, and list existing problems. Secondly, we explore how to apply the two theories todesigning the interface of online courses from an overall perspective, and put forwardcorresponding design methods. Lastly, we practice the actual course interface designthrough the network course―modern educational technology skills‖, and develop a samplecourse for learners’use, and summarize the result.Theoretical analysis of this study as well as test of practice will prove that the twotheories applied to the network course interface design can really take full advantage oflearners’different sensory channels, promote learners’cognitive processing, and ultimatelyimprove their learning.
