Interactive animation is warmly welcomed by teachers and students in primary and secondary schools, and its application has a bright future in education.Aiming at the existed problems in design and development of interactive animation for teaching and learning, the paper points out that the main reason is the shortcoming of instructional design. The paper emphasizes on the student-centered design tropism, analyzes the educational function of interactive animation, and how the interactive animation makes students process the information in view of Constructivism Theory and Cognitive Theory of Multimedia learning. The author researches on how to design interactive animation based on instruction design. The author pays special attention on the way of apply the principles of multimedia design and the design of interactive behavior and structure in the procedure of designing interactive animation. By analyzing the elements which influences the cognitive process during learning, the author puts forward several design principles, including Multimedia Principle, Near Presentation Principle, Aggregation Principle, Interactivity Principle, Modality Principle, Redundancy Principle and Individual Difference Principles. Also, the paper concludes the matters needing attention through the procedure of design and development of interactive animation. After that, the author develops the Balanced forces, which is selected from the textbook of secondary school Physics. Finally, the author applies the interactive animations into teaching practice. The animations play an effective role on facilitating teaching and promoting learning, especially in transfer test. Hoping this paper can be provided as a reference for the designers who want to develop the interactive animation.
