Outward bound as a "after the first known" method of education, after half a century development andevolution, has become the world’s largest and oldest outdoor experiential teaching model, and is prosperingin each country. But a realistic problem is that between theory study and practice there is a clearsegmentation and detachment which we must facing, while promoting of the outward bound, people pay nomore attention to the theoretical study of the problem, which leading to systemic, in-depth theoretical studywith extremely poor quality, and outward bound science was largely restricts in a healthy way. Therefore,strengthening of theoretical research, especially on the real implication, historical context, core values andpractice patterns of outward bound, and same basic problems of it should be research in depth, an urgentand meaningful subject is placed in front of the theorists.In view of this, the study was guided by "all-round development of people" theory, supported by"experiential education" theory, based on the analysis to relatively domestic and overseas document, on-sitefield observations as an important means, and combined thought differentiating research and practicalexploration, exploratory research was done on the problems above. Text is divided into four parts:Part1: The historical evolution of outward bound. This section expatiates on the historicaldevelopment of Outward Bound in details, reveals the characteristics of the systemic historical evolution ofOutward Bound. On this basis, the background of outward bound expanding into China and thedevelopment status of outward bound was analyzed and discussed in a full-scale.Part2: The concept discrimination of Outward Bound. In the study of Outward Bound, based onEnglish semantics and the results of study: Outward Bound is based on mental philosophy, psychology andsociology theoretical; in pursuit of individual development and team value; use of the natural environmentand the simulation scenarios as a platform; combine experience, thinking with physical activity as the entrypoint; take the experiential learning cycle as the operating procedures, aiming to awaken emotions,stimulate the potential, improve the mind, into the team and the perfect personality. To further clarity of theconcept, the concept of "experiential learning","adventure education","quality education" and "integratedpractice" was screened and analyzed in the article which often confused in the field of theory.Part3: An inquiry into the Outward Bound. The value of Outward Bound is the basic proposition inthe Outward Bound theory. This part based on the comprehensive survey of the production anddevelopment of Outward Bound, and the content and features of Outward Bound, basing on "thedevelopment of human subjectivity," theory, three core values of Outward Bound was analyzed: tostimulate individual potential, improve mental models and concise team spirit.Part4: The evolution of Outward Bound. This article from the perspective of historical reveals thechange and development of Outward Bound from the "Mountains Speak for Themselves” CurriculumModel (MSTM) to "Outward Bound Plus" Curriculum Model (OBPM), then to “Metaphoric CurriculumModel”(MM).The evolution reflects a history of people in the understanding the meaning and value of OutwardBound. This article shows the pursuit of Outward Bound is personality development and art; we shouldstudy the model, but not fall into situation of pattern. In practice, only master Outward Bound science, lawand basic skills of Outward Bound, while focusing on the reflection of practical experience, a uniqueintelligence and personality can gradually form, and the charm of art and vitality of life can be gained byOutward Bound.
