In the contemporary science curriculum reform, science inquiry is the core issue. Students have to learn to apply the scientific thinking methods flexibly in the process of acquiring knowledge and solving the problem, and form the scientific way of thinking if they want to really learn science inquiry. And in the process, the students’ ability of science inquiry can be gradually improved. The formation of the scientific way of thinking is based on the students’ knowledge and experience. They have to understand the scientists’ research methods and thinking process to a certain extent, and consciously learn the scientists’ way of thinking. So, we should advocate making the students think like scientists in science education. That is to say, the students should be inspired from the scientists’ thinking process, and the scientific thinking can be gradually developed. The paper first states that based on unit teaching is benefit to developing the students’ scientific thinking, and briefly analyzes the two basic problem of "how scientists think" and "how students learn chemistry". Secondly, I select the typical chemical course content "Physical Structure and the Periodic Law of Elements" as a teaching unit. Then this paper introduces the history of scientific discovery relating to the contents and Mendeleev’s scientific thought, and analyses the logical clues of the knowledge content, the methods and process of the scientific thinking. According to the results of analysis, the teaching goals of the development of the students’ science thinking are established, and the appropriate unit teaching contents can be selected and organized. In the end, this paper puts forward some teaching strategies and methods which could promote the students’ scientific thinking.
