Comparison Of Materials In The Scientific Literacy Perspective Of The Periodic Table And Periodic Law

The goal of the HPS education is to impove the citizens’ scientific literacy. In order to catch up with the international pace, we need to learn from the advanced countries and keep our advantages because the HPS education comes late to our country. Owing to the economic, political and cultural differences, the textbooks have their own charactics. Comparing textbooks conducive to complement. Things we learn from the comparition, will be used to modify our textbooks. Also they will help teachers broaden their horizon and enrich themsleves.Periodic table and periodic law of elements is one of the most important chemical theory of senior school studying. In the view of scientific literacy,I compare this part of knowledge and get the conclusion:1)The selection of this part of knowledge is almost the same, so is the arrangement. Our textbook is of a modular mode, which is designed to foster students’personalized training. Although the foreign textbook is not of a modular mode,it arranges from simple to difficult, corresponding different chapters.China’s Shangdong editions deals with in depth and breadth better, both help the students understand this part of the knowledge, but also pave the way for the college. Clearly, our textbook is reformed gradually with the international trend.2)Column design of the textbook is major service to the knowledge in our country, but not fully utilized. There are a lot of things about the history of chemistry, philosophy of science and sociology of science worth learning in the foreign textbook. One of the most typical textbook is the Australia one. The clue to the textbook which analysis chemists, chemical experiments, chemical events, and chemical methods dialectically, is the history of chemistry. We can learn a lot from it.3)The pictures and charts in the Chinese textbook still serve the main chemical knowledge. So the textbook is not lively enough. One of the most typical textbook is the American one, which is combined with a lot of pictures to enhance the students’ interest in reading and learning. The idea of analog simplifies the theoretical study and it is worth for our textbook.
