The Relationship Between College Students’ Interpersonal Competence、Self-esteem And Parental Rearing Style

This study probed to investigating the relationships of undergraduates’interpersonal competence..self-esteem and parental rearing style, and further exploring self-esteem mediating effect on the interpersonal relationship and parental rearing style,in order to provide some theoretical basis for family education.Using literature and questionnaire method,600undergraduates were investigated, who were selected randomly as participants from seven universities in Wu Han city. Four questionnaires----ICQ, EMBU, MCSD and SES, were adopted in this study.Conclusions:(1)The general status of the college students’interpersonal competence self-esteem and parental rearing style is good.(3) The students with genuine high esteem whose score of self-disclosure and assertive competence is significantly higher than the students with defensive high esteem,while their score of emotion support competence is significantly lower than the students with defensive high esteem.(3)The parental rearing style could significantly predict the interpersonal competence. The parents’worm feeling and understanding could positively predict the graduates’ interpersonal competence. The parents’over protection and fathers’rejection could negatively predict the graduates’interpersonal competence.(4)Self-esteem has partly intermediary role between parenting rearing style and interpersonal competence.
