Martial Arts has different contents and forms in different periods of Chinesehistory development process, on one hand, these forms are passed down by preceptand example techniques; on the other hand, they are recorded and included in anumber of different types of historical literature as a is a form of historical works.Based on the analysis of the Ming Dynasty’s military works and ancient bookscollation of Martial Arts, we can know that the technical system of Martial Arts inMing Dynasty period of China has been basically formed, and in the late MingDynasty, due to resisting the Japanese pirates in the coastal, Japanese and ChineseMartial Arts appeared certain theoretical reference and technical exchanges, showingthat the Ming Dynasty Martial Arts not only became perfect in technology system, butalso the theory reached a very high level.Chinese Martial Arts has a long history; it accumulated rich theoreticalknowledge in the historical development, leaving many traditional skills, boxingbooks, boxing charts and documents which reflected the historical appearance ofMartial Arts. Studying the traditional martial art works and literature, we can betterinherit and develop the precious cultural heritage---Martial Arts. The Ming Dynasty is an important period in Chinese feudal society, the earlyMing Dynasty was not only powerful in politic, and social economy obtained greatdevelopment. This period also belonged to the Chinese capitalist sprout period, so theChinese Martial Arts in the Ming Dynasty gradually entered the mature period, andformed a complete theoretical system and cultural system. That time emerged a largenumber of military theorist and Martial Arts masters who wrote books for MartialArts, some famous were:“word” by Yu Dayou,“Ji Xiao Xin Shu” by Qi jiguang,“Wu Bian” by Tang Shunzhi,“Gen Yu Sheng Ji” by Cheng Zongyou,“Zhen Ji” byHe Liangcheng,“Wubei Zhi” by Mao Yuanyi and so on. In the process of systemizingthe ancient books of Ming Dynasty, we find that Ming Dynasty Martial Arts literatureor records including boxing and pattern chart can be said to be the earliest discoveredand the most complete proof compared with other historical books.“Wubei Zhi" which I study on is the most complete varieties militaryEncyclopedia made by famous military theorist Mao Yuanyi in the late Ming Dynastywho spent fifteen years consulting nearly two thousand books. There are9volumesrecording the Martial Arts, from84to92, respectively recorded the bow, sword, knife, gun, and palladium, card, picture, stick, boxing and so on. Most are illustrated, explicitly explaining the actual use of their weapons’ manufacture and use method or boxing equipment and training methods. There are also many precious materialsabout Martial Arts contents recorded in it which many literature in Ming Dynasty andthe Ming dynasty have not involved, including the relevant documents such as:“North Korea’s Potential Method” which spread into North Korea from China inancient times and then back to China and almost tends to be lost. The book illustratesmethods, technology, and practice in details with pictures and words. The other one isthe thirty-second boxing method in “Quanjing Jieyao” by Qi Jiguang, because theoriginal was gone, the last eight type of boxing was lost in the process of circulationof different versions, but “Wubei Zhi” records the thirty-two boxing methods in thepart of Martial Arts with action drill, vivid image and graph formula. That valuableinformation about Martial Arts in Ming Dynasty, in turns, provides a verycomprehensive and valuable reference to the later generations of Ming literature forMartial Arts.By analyzing the Martial Arts materials in “Wubei Zhi” systematically andcomprehensively, we can know the general picture of the Ming Dynasty from onepoint of view, especially in the aspect of Chinese Martial Arts in the mature period ofboxing, equipment, techniques, technology and so on. Understanding the Martial Artsin “Wubei Zhi” has theoretic influence on academic value and practical significancefrom Ming Dynasty till now.
