There are great changes in English textbooks, with the implementation of NewCurriculum Reform. Since the fall of2007the Oxford English (Shanghai Editon) ofShanghai’s Education Publishing House has been used in Shenyang primary schools.The textbook focuses on students for theirs’ development, and encourages students tolearn and use English in happiness. Besides, the time of the textbooks carrying out isshort, and its research is in a weak phase. This research chooses this edition ofEnglish textbook as comparative objects, based on the textbook’ evaluation, researchachievement of textbook adaptability and guiding thought of New Course Standardof English, to build index system of textbook adaptability study. With the textbooksof goals and ideas, content, teaching and material conditions, we used the teachers’and the students’ questionnaires and interviews to evaluate the adaptability situationof the textbook.The results show that the textbook adapts well. Teachers and students have apositive attitude on the textbook. However there are also some defects. The difficultylevel is uneven. The basic language knowledge and the western culture are notenough. It doesn’t pay attention to training speech for students, and there is lesscontent associated with Shenyang and so on.For this reason, it is recommended that English teachers in primary schoolshould seriously study and carry out new curriculum concepts, learn more about theunderstanding of the textbook, strengthen phonetic knowledge, adjust the textbookindependently and flexibly, introspect on teaching practices timely. Textbook editorsshould strengthen the suitability of textbook and practice, optimized the content.Education authorities should improve the objective conditions of the implementationfor the new curriculum reform effectively, carry out teachers’ training, improve theteachers’ participation of writing the textbook.
