The Sociological Study Of Leftover Women Under The Postmodern Feminism View

The emergence of the phenomenon of "leftover women" has attracted more and more attention from scholars and has become a social phenomenon which can not be ignored. But the existing research lacks empirical researches. Meanwhile it’s based on the discussion of the reason for "leftover women" and lacks an understanding of the "leftover women" groups. This article bases on the perspective of postmodern feminism to discuss the image of "leftover women" under masculine discourse,"leftover women" self-perception and the anxiety of survival problems. To explore "leftover women" real living condition and the cause of the "leftover women" phenomenon in the method of case study, author uses the theory of postmodern feminism to look for the way of the liberation of the "leftover women".Through interviews, the author finds that "leftover women" has more generous social capital, diversified lifestyle, the pursuit of freedom and the high quality of life. To a certain extent, the ascension of social capital promotes the subjectivity of the "leftover women", which make them more independent and confident. In mate selection, they will make feeling as the main motivation of marriage. But they still stick to the traditional "suitable" mating mode, paying more attention to marriage object’s age, educational background, income, occupation and other external conditions. Although part of the social members have shown the understanding and supporting to "leftover women", women still can’t get rid of the influence of the patriarchal discourse. The social stigma of "leftover women" phenomenon is still serious. Discourse of "leftover women" has affected the quality of women’s life, brought "leftover women" physical and mental problems and the crisis of self-identity, hindered the promotion of modern women, and harmed to the harmonious development of the sexes.Through the postmodern feminism perspective, such as advocates inclusion, diversity symbiosis and discourse power, this paper argues that in an advocate tolerance, differences, and diverse symbiosis postmodern society, the liberation of the "leftover women", on the one hand, depends on the establishment of its own subjectivity, holding the power of discourse and correct positioning their own value. On the other hand, it also needs the change of old concept that "strong man with a weak woman" and "female subordination" in the marriage and family relations. It needs men’s participation and support. The development of women’s social capital should not become an obstacle to their marriage. Women’s choice of the suitable way for her life should not be forced by outside interference. Postmodern feminism theory not only points the way to resolve a dilemma for "leftover women", but also provides a theoretical basis for women’s self-development and the harmonious development of the sexes.
