Reading is a most important means by which people obtain informationand a most effective approach to improve students’ English levels. To developstudents’ ability of reading comprehension is the main object of the Englishteaching for Junior high school in our country. But the traditional Englishreading teaching approach really setback the improving of students’ readingability, and make the reading a weak part for most of the students. So how tomake the students read fast and efficiently turns out to be a main object forEnglish teachers to explore these years.The Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT), one of the most dominantlanguage teaching approaches in the world today, is becoming a catchingword in English teaching circles in China. The New National CurriculumStandard for English Course is advocating the application of Task-Basedapproach in language teaching of the Junior high school. It explicitly point outthat the application of Task-Based approach is to develop the students’comprehensive ability of language use in the course of English teaching. TheTask-Based Language Teaching encourages students’ experiencing,practicing, participating, communicating and cooperating with the teacher’shelp. The students may obtain a sense of success by achieving a goal. TheTask-Based approach emphasizes that the students perform tasks in the courseof English learning.However, at present, for most of the teachers in China, The Task-BasedLanguage Teaching Approach is still quite a new model although a lot ofexperts at home and aboard have done a lot of researches into TheTask-Based Language teaching and learning. In addition, The New NationalCurriculum Standard for English Course just gives a simple introduction oftask-based approach, so there exist a lot of difficulties in how to utilize thisapproach. Especially, many English teachers are short of conventions onpracticing task-based reading in English teaching. The author did an experimental research into the application of task-basedapproach to English reading teaching in Junior high school. Subject of theexperiment was the students from two contrast classes taught by the author.The English reading comprehensive ability of the two classes was similar, sothe two classes were comparative; during the experiment, the author appliedTask-Based Language Teaching Approach in the experimental class, buttraditional teaching method in the control class. Before the term ending, aspost-test, the author prepared the other reading test, and also compared thefinal exam results of the two classes. The author found that students’ readingcomprehensive ability of the experimental class was improved.Through the experiment, the author’s hypotheses prove to be correct, thatis, Task-Based Language Teaching Approach can be used in reading classeffectively and it can improve students’ reading comprehensive ability as wellas help to arouse students’ learning interest. And in the research, the authortries to get the approval by means of questionnaires,too.
