Recently, cheerleading dance has been attached more and more importance incolleges and universities. With its setting up as a selective course, it also getsincreasing popularity. In this article, a research was made on the cheerleading danceteams from10colleges and universities which attended the provincial event of ShanxiProvince themed with Health and Energy in2012to analyse the current status of thedevelopment of college cheerleading dance and find the relevant factors whichinfluence its development by the methods of questionnaire survey, interviewingexperts and mathematical statistics, in hope to serve as the theoretical reference tofurther promote the development of college cheerleading dance in Xi’an City.Conclusions:1, According to the questionnaires, the male female ratio of coaches is1:2andthey are basically qualified in educational level. However, they are seldom trained andunprofessional. Most of them are not qualified as referees. Dancers are trainedirregularly at ordinary times and intensively while competitions approaching. Themale female ratio of dancers is1:3and their age spans from19to22mostly. Most ofthem are freshmen and sophomores.62%of the cheerleaders have never attended therelevant training and most of them showed preference of cheerleading dances.2, Based on the surveys, among the college cheerleading dances in Xi’an City,the development of ball-flower dance is favorable with the most dancers. The onessecond to ball-flower dance are hip hop and jazz cheerleading dances while free stylecheerleading dance is less developed with the least dancers,3, The influencing factors are: external factors, coach-oriented factors anddancer-oriented factors, etc. Among them, the external factors lie in the lack of funds,being less valued, weak mass base, low quality of infrastructures, coaches and dancersbeing less motivated, etc. The coach-oriented factors include lack of opportunities ofbeing trained professionally, low coaching level, unsystematic training ideas andmethods, and so on. The dance-oriented factors are poor physical quality, low-levelskills, lack of systematic training and competition experience, lack of backup dancers,poor cooperation between dancers and lack of team spirit, etc.Suggestions:The competent authorities should pay more attention to the cheerleading danceand expanding the sources of funds; the coaching level should be improved; the dancers should be selected scientifically and trained effectively; the cheerleadingdance clubs should be set up in colleges and universities to promote the developmentof cheerleading dance in terms of industrialization.
