According to the theory of cultural acquisition and related research ofcollaborative study, the writer applies action research in the teaching in order tosolve the problem of students’ difficulty in reading comprehension due to lack ofcultural acquisition. The major findings are as follows:First, collaborative study has an obvious effect on students’ languagelearning. The most obvious effect lies in the fact that it greatly stimulates students’intrinsic motivation and helps many students realize the fun of learning English. Theynow understand learning English is not only learning vocabulary and grammar butalso acquiring more knowledge,Secondly, cultural acquisition must not be ignored. It satisfies students’curiosity about the world. More importantly, it can enable students to acquireunconsciously some common words and even some uncommon words, which ismuch better and easier than learning words only and which also eliminates theboredom of learning words and grammar. Finally, students’ reading ability has been promoted in a way, which can bereflected through their willingness to deal with reading compression in daily studyfrom a new perspective.
