English Course Standard has put forward the following new theories, such as the English-oriented courses to all middle and primary school students focusing on quality education; standing out individuals and respecting the individual differences; adopting the approaches to activities and advocating experience. The standard clearly point out that the development of the students is the start and the end-result. Therefore, it is the major task of the courses reforming: reforming the old teaching models and leading teaching to shift from teachers-centered to students-centered. To accomplish the task, I have been experimenting with"teaching by learning plan". And I will present the procedure and result of the experiment in this essay. Since a long time ago, we have realized the importance of reading teaching by analyzing its great proportion in senior English teaching. However, both teaching and learning reading are not in satisfying actualities. The texts of the new curriculum model of senior English are long and the vocabulary of each unit is large. What's more, most of the students in our school have poor English foundation, their reading speed is not fast enough and they haven't quite powerful comprehending ability. As a result, they can hardly fulfill the class reading task. Meanwhile, the students only listen to the teacher and occasionally take notes in class. Thus, they have few opportunities to think by themselves and to write. Over time, this has resulted in students not taking an active part in class activities.So I consider adopting learning plan in teaching reading in order to make students write more and participate in more activities. The aim is to lower the standard in reading and arouse the students'interest in reading English and help them to form a good habit of reading so that they can promote their reading strategies. This may help students to develop their ability of self-directed learning.This essay attempts to research whether teaching reading through learning plan in senior middle school can arouse the students'interest in reading, help to finish class reading task and develop their ability of self-directed learning. I'll make one class of Grade One in Jilin No.13 Senior School which I am teaching the research objects. The research will be carried on by questionnaires, observations and interviews in this essay.The research takes the Theory of Constructivism as the theory base and it is guided under the"New Standard of Curriculum". I have studied much about learning plan and teaching through learning plan and combined with my own teaching experience. As a common English teacher, I have been trying to come up with some effective suggestions and methods on teaching reading English in senior middle schools as references for the fellow colleagues.
