Study On Alumni Culture And Its Cultivation Of Universities

Since the80s of last century, universities of China recovered their alumni work and highlighted the importance of alumni group as the public relations resources, human resources, information resources, material resources and intellectual resources of the Chinese University. Recently, intense competition occurred among universities to seize the outstanding students, social resources, teaching resources and so on. Alumni group played a crucial role in winning the competition. The alumni are not only precious resources, but also core advantage for the construction and development of universities. Previous studies focused on development and utilization of alumni resources, motivation of alumni donations and alumni work organization, which gave a lot of theoretical directions to alumni work. However, it also led to the lack of humanistic concern to alumni group and the disadvantage of alumni work Based on campus culture and university spirit, the University Alumni Culture formed and developed as a group culture. The formation and development of alumni culture covered the shortage of current alumni work; in the meantime, it enhanced cohesion and centripetal force of alumni group.At present, there are few researches about alumni culture, in other words, the study is still in its early stage. This paper attempts to study the concept, connotation, function, influencing factors and cultivating ways of alumni culture. Firstly, because of the fuzzy definition of alumni culture, the author defines the concept and connotation of alumni culture by combing the concepts of culture, group culture, campus culture and so on. Secondly, based on the clarification of the concept, the author explains the affecting factors and main functions of alumni culture together with related researches. The influencing factors include the spirit of university, campus culture, alumni feelings and the main functions cover teaching function, educational function and cohesion function. Finally, discuss cultivating methods of alumni culture through Alma Mater, alumni and system, which means we should take alma mater as carrier, take alumni as audience, take system as foundation to consider how to develop more "soft power" of alumni culture in order to promote the continuous and valid development of our alumni work, gather the strengths of alumni group and consolidate the dominant position of alumni resources so as to advance the core competitiveness of our universities.
