Engels’ Marriage Concept And Its Contemporary Value

Love, marriage as well as family is the warmest home to human’s emotions and the basicproportion in human social relationship. Nowadays, China is undergoing a historic periodwhich boasts rapid development in political, economic, cultural and social sectors, etc. With thechange of society, the marriage concept of Chinese people reveals new change accordingly. Thechange is reflected in Chinese people’s concept on romantic relationship, male selection,marriage and bisexual relationship, etc. Under the multi-influence such as value orientation,economic interests, culture and education, and social pressure, the marriage concept ofcontemporary Chinese people begin to have a negative trend such as utility, open concept of sex,unstable marriage relationship, weakening of moral judgment, dim responsibility of marriageand family, etc. Therefore, the marriage concept of contemporary Chinese people is in urgentneed of reconstruction under scientifically guidance.Engels is a great mentor of Marxism in which marriage concept plays an important role inits ethical thought. His marriage concept plays a crucial guiding role in marriage conceptconstruction of the new period of Chinese socialism. This thesis analyzes the theoreticalpremise of Engels’ marriage concept. Through concluding and analyzing the concepts in otherworks such as “British Working Class Status”,“Holy Family”,“The German Ideology”,“Family, Private Property and the State of Origin”, this thesis sorts out the thread of theformation, development and deepening of Engels’ marriage concept. Finally, this thesis extractsthe main content of Engels’ marriage concept and concludes that concepts such as mutual,exclusive, forever and free love based on Engels’ marriage concept can bring benefits to theconstruction of modern Chinese marriage concept.Drawing upon from Engels’ marriage concept and constructing the marriage conceptwhich unifies ideal and actual society of contemporary China should be based on thedevelopment of the times and society from the perspective of historical materialism outlook.Moreover, it should carry on the traditional fine virtue and keep pace with the times.Subsequently, this thesis discusses the necessity for unifying the ideal and actual marriageconcept in society of contemporary China at first. This is because the necessity calls for thedemand of interpersonal, family along with social harmony. Secondly, constructing themarriage concept which unifies ideal and actual society of contemporary China includes threemain parts, namely constructing love concept, marriage concept and family concept whichunify ideal and actual concept. Additionally, the author believes that according to Engels’marriage theory, constructing the marriage concept which unifies ideal and actual society ofcontemporary China should focus on moral and system construction in nowadays society ofChina. Three reasonable measures should be taken to construct the marriage concept whichunifies ideal and actual society of contemporary China, namely valuing marriage concepteducation in family and school, improving the right direction of public voice, and optimizingmarriage law mechanism construction.
