| Mind Mapping is an effective graphic thinking tool expressing radiant thinking. Actually,it is a thinking map applied to memory, study, and thinking. As a powerful graphic technique,Mind Mapping is regarded as the skeleton key to unlocking the potential of the brain. MindMapping can be enhanced and enriched with color, pictures, codes and multi-dimension so asto add interest, memory and creativity and help the recall of information. Nowadays, MindMapping is widely used all over the world. However, the study on applying Mind Mapping toEnglish learning in China is still on a preliminary stage, and the study of the application ofMind Mapping to English vocabulary revision for senior high school entrance examination isespecially scarce. Preparing for senior high school entrance examination is a key period forjunior high school students during which a lot of language knowledge and words need to begeneralized and summarized and memorized, which is a great challenge for both teachers andstudents. Therefore, it is in great need to do a further study on the integration of MindMapping, with visualization, radiant thinking and balancing of the left and right brain as itsadvantages, and the revision of English vocabulary.This thesis is a case study lasting for one school term, aiming to testify whether MindMapping will boost the memorization of English words, stimulate students’ interests ofEnglish learning and enhance their learning autonamy. The author chose three students ofGrade Nine from three different junior high schools in Yantai as subjects, and taught themEnglish for a term. While conducting lessons, the author made a systematic summarization ofmost of the target vocabulary learned during junior high school, categorized them anddesigned different types of Mind Maps, namely, spelling-based type, category-based type andassociation-based type. The author tried to apply these Mind Maps to helping studuents’ bettermemorizing English words in her teaching practice.Based on the analysis of the related data collected, the experimental results showed asfollows:As a thinking tool, Mind Mapping can build a meaningful link between the old and thenew knowledge which will cultivate the ability of knowledge construction. Mind Mappingcan greatly improve the efficiency of the memorization of English words during vocabularyrevision for senior high school entrance examination. Mind Mapping can better improve students’ interest in learning English and enhance their learning autonomy. Consequently, weshould make full use of the benefits of Mind Mapping in vocabulary revision for senior highschool entrance examination to further foster the efficiency of English teaching and learning. |
