Race walking is one of the traditional advantage events of track and field items in our country, and our national athletes except to get the race walking gold in the 28th Olympic Games. The objective of this paper was to research on evaluation of walkers’ aerobic metabolism ability by comparing the results of the incremental exercise protocol in the laboratory and of Conconi test. The subjects were eight elite walkers in national team(They are native plateau walkers). And this paper attempted to explore the law of the walking training by using individual anaerobic threshold and to evaluate the status of walkers by using biochemical indexes during the 2007 winner training period. The results showed:1.The heart rate threshold of the elite walkers was 168.8±3.2 beats/min,the individual anaerobic threshold velocity was 13.40±0.27km/h.The maximum values of lactate was 11.50±1.51mmol/ L,10min lactic acid clearance rate was 0.37±0.15.No significant difference was found between the heart rate thresholds in the two tests (p=0.183>0.05).And therewasn’t significant difference in individual anaerobic threshold velocity in the two tests(p=0.068>0.05) and there was a higher positive correlation between them(F=0.901>0.7,p=0.02<0.05). 2.The individual anaerobic threshold velocity was significantly increased during the winter training period.(p=0.02<0.05).3.The total load of training was 1522.8km/h in the 2007 winter training period. In the key lessons,The percentage of the training kilometers for the endurance training in Grading Two was 61.7%;for the endurance training in Grading One was 18.6%.4.From the changes of some biochemical indexes, it was found that the walkers were adapted in the preparation stage, and the body was stimulated by the altitude training.Hb before the event was significantly higher than the average value(p=0.01<0.05).T/C before the event was significantly higher than the average value(p=0.000<0.01).The authors concluded that Conconi test can replace the incremental exercise protocol in the laboratory from the aspect of estimating the anaerobic threshold intensity.Conconi test had more practical significance than the other test. The aerobic capacity of walkers was improved through the winter training. The stimulation from training was appropriate. The walkers remained in good status by pre-event training.
