In recent years,the organizing committees of major sporting events are paying more and more attention to use the network,which is considered an effective information tool,for the sake of expanding thesocial impact and setting a good image for the events.As the "gateway" of sports organizations and the "windows" of events information releasing,the official website of major sporting events has been proved to be an essential measure of public" relations communication.Due to its particularity,the official website of major sporting events is so typical and representative that it should be of value to researching. To focus on the public relations of official website,in particular the concept of media services is beneficial to image-building of international and domestic major sporting events that will be held in China.The research has taken documentation,content analysis,expert interview and comparative analysis as the major research methods,and used combination theories of public relations,communication and the like. On the other hand,the article has analyzed and investigated some official websites of major sporting events around the world to summarize and illustrate its characteristics,functions,operation mechanism, organization and content providing by examples above.Based on the above analysis,the thesis has gotten the following conclusions:1 The multiple characteristics of the official website of major sporting events,including media,official organization and public relations means,not only decided that it had the function of providing services to the participants in the tournament,events image-building and relationship between inside and outside coordination,but also confined its key publics which include the general public and media organizations. In its organization and contents offer,some areas such as staffing, source of articles,information releasing,page framework and columns setting embody the concept of public relations and media services. 2 After analysis about both Chinese and foreign official websites of major sporting events,it is easy to conclude that there are some defects on concept and practice in Chinese sporting official websites because of several potential problems.It is imperative that the official websites of major sporting events should be in line with international norms.Based on a comprehensive grasp of the official websites of major sporting events in this paper,some suggestions were made to Chinese professional port leagues and major sporting events organizations:1 The event organizers should be more cautious when they choose the cooperation partner.Besides,they should raise the consciousness on public relations,media services,and focus on the service quality, establish adequate planning and supervision of the official websites.2 As for the specific companies involved in building the official network,first of all,they should do their best to raise the consciousness on the public relations and media services;secondly,they should build up a promotion division or department,attempt to operate enterprise mechanism of commercial web site,and increase the original press release writers;last but not the least,the companies should focus on the media services in areas such as page setup,hyperlinks,content of news releases,updating frequency,aesthetics and technology.They also should provide news services,news delivery,historical data searching services and interactive services,for the purpose of improving the communication effects of the major sporting events.
