With the development of industrialization, the level of information and automation isalso increasing rapidly. A variety of fieldbus technologies have been coming to meet the needsof a growing number of information interaction. PROFIBUS has been a hot area of researchbecause of its high rate of transmissionThis paper adopts FPGA to design a controller which achieves a greater advantage in thehigh-speed communication and scalability than the traditional ways.This paper adopts FPGAto design the communication module of the slave interface as a controller, which includes thehardware circuit, application software program, and the communication between the masterand the slave. The Slave modules achieve a greater advantage in the high-speedcommunication and scalability than the traditional ways.In this paper, the PROFIBUS-DP protocol analysis was firstly introduced, mainly focuson the network characteristics, network structure, transmission, access specifications,operating mode, network configuration, data transmission and the principle of DP slave statemachine. Then described the top-down design ideas which based on the EDA and theapplication of the FPGA with SPC3 to achieve the software and hardware of the slavePROFIBUS-DP.In the hardware aspect, the FPGA controller takes the majority computing tasks and usesfull advantages of the SPC3 ability to make it focus on the transmission of the data link layertask with work efficiency greatly improved. At the same time the paper presents the logicdiagram and hardware schematic and pin assignment specification.In the software aspect, the program was assembled and optimized by VerilogHDLdescription language on the Xilinx’s ISE software development platform which havedebugging of timing constraints to optimize the efficiency of the software running, meanwhilesome simulation results and flow charts were also presented in the paper .Scalability of themodule was fully taken into account in the design to make it more powerful adaptation thanever before.The communication effects were tested by a single-master single-slave network systemwhich the master was a laboratory PLC.
