Antenna is the crucial equipment of the radio application system.Because of the small size, light weight and low profile characteristics, theplanar antenna is easily to be integrated with circuits. In recent years, withthe great development of manufacture workmanship of the antenna, theplanar antenna has become more attractive star in many applications. Themain work of this thesis is the study on planar microstrip antenna array forthe transmitter of satellite communication systems.The structure characteristic, radiation principle and analyse method ofmicrostrip antenna are firstly introduced in this paper. Then, some theoriesof array antenna are presented, which include radiation characteristic, themode of array, impedance matching network and power distribution. Also,the design method and measure technology used in this study are brieflyintroduced.Then based on these theories, in the remaining part of this thesis wefocuse on analyzing and designing a Ku-band high gain dual-patch microstrip antenna, which is used to compose the planar transmittingantenna array for satellite communication sytems. The simulated resultsindicate that the gain of this antenna element is8.46dB at14.25GHz, andthe bandwidth is1.88GHz(S11<-10dB). After designing a series of planarantenna array,32elements array,64elements array and256elements arrayare manufactured and measured respectively. The measured gain of the256elements array is29.61dB. Simulations and measurements both demonstratethat all of these antenna arrays have high performance.The analyzing and designing experiences of such planar microstripantenna array can be referred when someone need to design planar antennafor similarity application fields. A summarization is given at the end of thisthesis and future researches on planar microstrip array antennas are alsodiscussed.
