With the application of embedded systems, the connection between underlying device and network become necessary. Because of the traditional interfaces, like RS-485、RS-232、CAN-BUS、PCI and so on, can’t connect with network directly, so we can use the embedded technology to design a high quality Ethernet, which has functions of network connection and remote monitoring, it’s typically appropriate. And with the gradual popularization of gigabit networks, the research which bases on high-capacity and high-speed Transmission System is so hot, and it becomes the trend of development in the field of engineering control.In this paper, Gigabit Ethernet design and implementation include two parts, hardware and software. The core hardware system selected Samsung’s ARM9series processor S3C2410, this revolves around the processor and Ethernet controller, USB interface, SDRAM, Flash, external memory interface devices and other important design issues are analyzed and discussed.Software design focused on the Linux operating system migration, including the establishment of cross-compilation environment, and guide the establishment of procedures for kernel porting, network equipment, drive migration, the root file system of the building; In the final,the design is completed the server and client-side Gigabit network communication procedures, and lists the test results.The experimental results show that the design met the basic requirements for high-speed data transmission to obtain a good transmission.
