Steganography,the art of conveying information confidentially,is realized byembedding secret messages into cover-objects such as digital images,audios and videos.A large number of steganography softwares have appeared with downloading freelyonline, especially those with images as covers. These softwares may be used bycriminal groups to planning criminal activities or internal personnel to outward revealcompany secret information.Steganalys is the technology for detection and extracting hidden information,which is useful for network monitoring and digital forensics. So far, there is no effectivemethod to extract information, moreover detecting technology is mainly based on thestatistical characteristic of covers content with only low accuracy in practice.In this paper, we develop“steganography software detecting system” based featuresof steganography software, which can extract features from the computer for more thansixty kinds of steganography softwares, then construct fingerprint storehouse and detectthe traces of the steganographic softwares with low false-alarm. Furthermore, for foursteganography softwares with BMP format images as covers, we can effectively detectstego objects, distinguish the corresponding steganography software, and extract hiddedinformation successfully.The proposed steganography software detecting system has less computingresources and strong expansibility. It can be used as a sub module in protection toolssuch as firewall, antivirus software etc. It can also be used to monitor and preventinternal information leakage of enterprises, or be used in digital forensics.
