This dissertation is using historical material、History Prospect、Statistical Data、land-use map、TM Remote Sensing Image as Basic Data, selecting the current moremature and better characterize of city system of Fractal Dimension、expansion intensityindex and compact index quantitative analysis the urban land expansion in Chongqingmain city zone Based on RS and GIS. In the drive mechanism of urban land expansion,Take the Natural Factors、Social Economy、Infrastructures、policy planning as the KeyAnalysis. And use the SLEUTH Model to Forecast the urban land expansion inChongqing main city zone of2001，The prediction results show that the predictionmethod is feasible，By the same method to Forecast the urban land expansion of2012、2014、2016、2018and2020in Chongqing main city zone.Through qualitative researching nearly100years of Chongqing urban expansion inhistory and driving mechanism concluded：1、The process of urban land expansion in Chongqing main city zone indicated thatThis process is gradual mode：experienced the open port period, the alternate period,national economic recovery period, three line construction period and past period，Thefive periods of Chongqing city is the fastest growing period，At the same time the urbanspatial structure also happened a few times corresponding big leap and transformation.2、The topographical factor to some extent determines the propagation direction ofUrban Built-up Area; economic has become the factors influence Velocity of UrbanSpace to outward extension, this manifestations on Economic Growth and thedevelopment of Urban Built-up Area are consistent; policy planning in Promoting andGuiding urban land expansion was quite significant.Through the quantitative analysis and prediction of the1980Chongqing cityexpansion reached the following conclusions:1、Through study to the analysis and research of quantitative characteristics andspatial characteristics of urban spatial expansion, The Urban Spatial Morphology ofeach Chongqing Built-Up Area manifested as historicalness, from the “themulti-centalclustered” city of80’s to the “three parts main city zone、twelve residential groups and eleven periphery groups” city of today. With the existing city nineadministrative district to divide groups of geographical location, we found that group inthe district are not evenly distributed, this leads to a certain extent the development ofthe imbalance, in the same period the city expanded area and expansion intensity isdifferent.2、The study of quantitative analysis of urban land expansion in Chongqing maincity zone base on fractal dimension, In all, the extended mode mostly is outwardextension, Meanwhile internal filling. The speed of internal filling is slowing down, It ismanifested as original vacant land change to Urban Built-up Area, Compact ratio in thecorresponding period is somewhat increased but Expansion intensity index is decreased.3、This result of the Forecasted with SLEUTH Model to the urban land expansionin Chongqing main city zone of2001is very satisfactory, The results showed that urbanland expansion along city road traffic trunk extension,this explains that urban landexpansion was large affected by roads and transportation.
