Retail industry is closely related with people’s life. In recent years, there is agood development trend in our retail industry. But, with more and more foreignretail enterprises entering into China, the market share of domestic retailenterprises lowered. There are still some shortages with our retail enterprises, soit’s necessary to study on them, and then we can find the problems for theirdevelopment.Firstly, this paper presents the research background, meaning, content andmeans. Secondly, this paper discusses the status quo of the research on technicalefficiency by scholars throughout the world from the perspective of industryefficiency, effect factors, and retail industry efficiency, and concludes the effectiveeffect factors available that this paper will focus on. Thirdly, the status quo of ourretail industry and the problems the retail enterprises exist. Fourthly, based on thedata of the China’s32listed retail enterprises and SFA model (EVA and mainoperating profits are selected as the output indexes separately), the technicalefficiency and effect factors of China’s retail industry are studied. Lastly, theconclusion is drawn. The study shows that on the condition of these two different output indexes, the quality of human capital, ownership structure, asset turnover, average paymentof the managers, pose a notable impact on the efficiency, but the last variableshows the opposite outcome. There is little relevance between age of theenterprise, cost of sales ratio and the technical efficiency of China’s retailenterprises. The analysis results show that there is some difference betweenasset-liability ratio, type of shareholders and the technical efficiency of retailenterprises under different output indexes, and still to be studied.
