A Basic Study In The Application Of Technology Roadmap In R&D Budgeting

Two factors are critical importance to R&D management. The first one is the direction of the technology should be correct. Wrong military strategy will lead to defeat in the battle. Similarly, in the wrong direction will result in the failure of R&D projects. The second one is the allocation and planning of resources, especially financial resources. R&D process and results will be affected if lack of the support of suitable and adequate resources.How to make both a right technology direction and appropriate resources available for R&D project? For this issue, my paper developed a framework of R&D budgeting based on technology road map. Use technology road map to find the right direction, and appropriate planning by budgeting, then the R&D success will more promising. It is also conducive to the setting of R&D budget targets and the carry out of R&D budgeting.Case studies can make abstract theories easy to understand. With the case of a bicycle plant name King Cat, which was fictional, we study its technology strategy transformation, and practice the R&D budgeting based on technology road map. This study includes five steps: Questions and Background, introduction of the technology road map, discussion of key aspects and design of the R&D budgeting methodology, case studies and at last summary.
