The Study On Cemetery Tourist Experience

In order to deal with the problems both in the tourism industry and the academic research, this paper takes research questions as the orientation which is how tourist experience is formed. This paper takes cemetery tourism which is rarely studied up to now as the object. Using the methodology of tourism semeiology and the methods of observation and questionnaire investigation, qualitative and quantitative analysis are both taken.This paper figures out that tourist experience is formed during the process of reading, unscrambling and absorbing the semiotic meanings of tourism elements. The reason why a tourist pays attention to a certain element is that this element arouses the interest of this tourist and conducts his association and imagination, and taking pictures is the most important method for tourists to pay attention to the element and collect its symbol meaning. In addition, this paper concludes that the familiarity between tourists and tourism elements, the level of knowledge and social experience, the initiative for the tour, life experience and personality of tourists are the factors which will influence the process of tourist experience’s formation. What’s more, there is an obvious correlation among the quality of tourist experience, the concern tourists paid to the tourism elements and the unscrambling quality of the symbol meaning of tourism elements, and the correlation is obviously positive. Last but not the least, this paper claims that every cemetery has a complex semeiotic system, in which the introduction, the tombstone, the epitaph, the remains and the statue of the cemetery host are obvious and of significance. It is through these that tourists acquire their experience.
