Research On The Changes Of Trade Between Guangxi And Southeast Asia Countries(1950-2010)

Guangxi has a deep connection with Southeast Asia countries in geography, nation, custom, consanguinity and trade is an important way of contact between Guangxi and Southeast Asia countries. With the influence of trade liberalization and regional integration in the world, the regional integration of Asia is accelerating. China and Asean play an important role in the change of regional integration in Asia. Therefore, Guangxi-the most nearest province to Southeast Asia countries in China-is facing huge opportunity and challenge.In order to clarify the actual conditions of trade, this thesis will summarize the geographical advantage of Guangxi and the change of trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia countries before1950.Trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia countries after1950has experienced a winding developing process. This thesis will divide the change process into5important historical period and make a deep analysis about the change of trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia countries through total situation, the structure of commodities and market, the way of trade, the trade institution and so on. These5period which have a strong connecting link between the preceding and the following at last become the combing of60years’change of trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia countries.This thesis insist that the trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia countries has been through a process of recovering, starting, changing, adjusting and growing. At the first phase year1950-1957,Guangxi’s administration and institution system of foreign trade has been built up, Guangxi’s foreign trade was in a phase of order reconstruction and recovering. As most of the Southeast Asia countries have not been in a trade relation with Guangxi, Hongkong and Vietnam became the window of trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia countries; At the second phase trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia started difficultly in1958,and has been through a winding process of development. The trade between them grew unsteadily with the influence of political factors in and outside China. What’s more, the trade institution of planned economy lowered the initiative and positivity to trade. Therefore, the trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia grew slowly; At the third phase year1976-1983,because of The Sino-Vietnamese War, Guangxi’s pace of opening to outside has fallen behind, comparing to Guangdong and Fujian Province. With the adaption to the change of foreign trade institution, Guangxi started to trade with Southeast Asia countries and since Guangxi has lost the most important trade company-Vietnam, Guangxi began to pay more attention to the trade with other Southeast Asia countries; The forth phase started in1991,the achievement of reformation of foreign trade institution together with the economic boom in Southeast Asia countries greatly promote the trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia. However, this promotion was interrupted by1997Financial Crisis in Asia. Year1997-2002the trade between them has been through a period of economic readjustment. Even so, the trade between them improved both in quantity and quality and began to go into liberalization; At the fifth phase year2003-2010, as trade liberalization and regional integration in Asia start to accelerate, the trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia came into a brand new phase. Guangxi start to explore a characteristic way of trade in the background of regional and sub-regional cooperation.Through the change of trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia in5period, this thesis has digged out4characteristic about the change of trade:1.Institution is the main factor leading the change of trade;2. Characteristic of border and coastal are both the stimulative and restrained factor in the change of trade;3.The economic development of Southeast Asia countries has great influence to Guangxi’s foreign trade;4.Exploring a new way of trade in the competition of port and market. And then this thesis makes a demonstration analysis about the effect that the trade between Guangxi and Southeast Asia does to Guangxi economy. Finally, the thesis puts forward that in the background of regional and sub-regional cooperation, Guangxi should increase it’s position in CAFTA and the regional trade system in Asia. This thesis insist that developing Southeast Asia market, promoting competitive power, expressing advantage and exploring a characteristic way of trade are the effective approaches to promote it’s position.
