Chengdu-chongqing Economic Zone City Development Research Network

With the rapid development of the regional economy and the continuousimprovement of the network of transportation and telecommunication in a region, theflow of goods, capital, technology, information, labor and other factors of productionbetween cities within a region will become more frequent and the economic ties willbecome closer, which will form a dynamic economic system containing a complexnetwork connection. Therefore, the urban network is a necessary stage in a regionaleconomic development. Urban economic network is a spatial support for regionalintegration and regional supply and demand, and the more stable its network structureis and the stronger the economic ties between the cities are, the more we can promotethe circulation and effective allocation of factors of production, thus boosting thecoordinated development of regional economy and promoting the integration processof regional economy.Regional Planning in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Area mentions that:Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Area will be developed into an important economicgrowth pole of our country to drive the economic development of the entire westernregion, which marks that it will enter a new round of accelerated development stage.The studies of the phasic features and disadvantages of urban network developmentand the analyses of the structural defects of the urban economic network inChengdu-Chongqing Economic Area, can provide direction for future development,which are of great practical value for promoting the economic coordinateddevelopment of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Area, narrowing regionaldevelopment gap and promoting the integration process of regional economy.In this paper, we give a summary for theories and empirical researches ofnetwork development at home and abroad, and analyze and summarize the concepts,connotation, features, power mechanism and stages of evolution of the developmentof regional urban network. Zipf Fractal Model is used to measure the size-rank fractalvalue of the seven major economic indicators of the38node cities inChengdu-Chongqing Economic Area and to analyze the fractal characteristics of theurban system in the area and it is concluded that Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Areais in the early stage of development of urban network. An evaluation system about theurban comprehensive economic strength of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Area isbuilt, proceed from the three angles of economy aggregate, efficiency and structure; comprehensive economic strength of the38node cities is measured by PrincipalComponent Analysis; edge weight of urban economic network in the area is analyzedcombined with the revised urban economic gravity model; the matrix of the extent ofeconomic link of cities in the area is obtained; the method of social network analysisand Ucinet software are used to analyze the urban economic network structure in thearea. In addition, the measure indexes such as network density, point centrality,closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, central potential and cohesive subgroupconnection density are used in this paper, and stage features of the urban economicnetwork of the area is concluded by data analysis—the urban economic network ofChengdu-Chongqing Economic Area is in the lack of high network density, importantnodes, balanced secondary network and axis of network horizontal connection. Inconclusion, this paper mentions the optimization direction according to thedisadvantages of the above—it is necessary to strengthen the contact of theSichuan-Chongqing economic sub-network, cultivate the important node cities andthe sub-urban agglomerations, improve internal axis of horizontal connection andstrengthen connections with external networks.
