Employees are now faced with a challenging and changing work environment due to the further development of the work field. One should have good work adjustment skills to cope with the changing environment and new challenges. However, existing researches of work adjustment are focusing on the introduction and analysis of the concept of work adjustment and related variables. And many of the existing researches are done for special groups of individuals, such as newcomers. This research dived into the general employees rather than the newcomers to define a new construct of work adjustment and to develop and validate a work adjustment scale in Chinese employees.A construct of work adjustment was found and a scale was formed by27items after a literature review and a qualitative study, analysis of interviews of12employees in Shanghai. In the following quantitative study, the construct and the final version of the work adjustment scale was confirmed and validated in a sample formed by424Chinese employees. The methods including reliability analysis, content analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, partial correlation analysis and layered regression were used in the research. Results showed that:1. A3-factor construct of work adjustment was found;2. The18-item work adjustment scale in Chinese employees was confirmed;3. The scale had good reliability and construct validity and concurrent validity, but the evidence of the convergent validity, discriminant validity and predictive validity remained insufficient.
