With the process of global economic integration and the rapid development of science and technology, China’s manufacturing industry is facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges under the new situation. In order to occupy a place in the fierce market competition and meet the need of their customer, many companies try to improve production efficiency through lean manufacturing, implementation of information management and other advanced methods. As an important management and analysis tool in lean manufacturing theory, Value Stream Management (VSM) has gradually been applied and taken seriously by many enterprises. Using VSM thinking, companies can analyses the whole operation mechanism and mode in macro view to determine the process flow and value-added manufacturing operations, and also can describe the information of every aspect of the manufacturing process in micro view to identify bottlenecks and waste. So the VSM is a very good method in the analysis, evaluation, optimization and improvement for manufacturing system.Diagnosis and evaluation are the premise to the production system’s optimization and improvement. It is not only to judge the system is running good or bad, but also to analyze the specific location of the problems, so as to provide the objective for the optimization. Thus it can be seen that the VSM thinking can be fully learned in the diagnosis and evaluation of the manufacturing process. Value Stream Mapping is the important tool in VSM’s usage, and now it mainly be drawn by manual. In manual way, the actual operation is a little difficult. On one hand, it is not conducive to the promotion of the application of VSM; on the other hand it also limits the next manufacturing process of diagnosis and evaluation. For this reason, this topic puts the forward ideas that using information technology methods to achieve the value stream mapping drawing and the manufacturing process diagnosis and evaluation. The topic tries to use the advanced system development technology, software integration technology, and the data exchange technology to show the form of the value stream map, gathering the information that needed, selecting evaluation index, and using the statistical rules to achieve the system’s goal.This system belongs to the scope of the manufacturing process management. This paper discusses in detail about the basic idea of the system, the overall model, the function of each module and the principle of its realization. Besides, according to the method of structured systems analysis, the author conducts requirements analysis, system modeling and fundamental system design. Specifically, the paper includes the following sections in structure:Tn the first and second part, the paper shows the background, presents the subject, and analyzes the significance of this research. By summing up the research of lean manufacturing, value stream management, manufacturing process evaluation and optimization, and application of information technology, the author determines the main research aspects and technology roadmap. The paper also analyzes the basic theories and methods related to this topic, and discuss its application in the subject.The third part analyzes the necessity and technical feasibility of developing the diagnosis and evaluation of manufacturing process system based on VSM, proposes the goals and basic needs, divides the function modules, builds a functional model of the system, and gives a simple description and operation of the system logic flow. Finally, according to the system features, the author builds the basic framework of the system, and analyzes its integration and data transfer with other system.Part four focuses on the value stream system module. IDEFO tool is used to build the functional modeling and give detailed description of system functions, and then followed by analysis of the principles of value stream mapping objective, the basic attributes of the logistics, the information flow on the manufacturing process, and the data sources of every aspects. The final analysis is the system logic process model and the data flow model. Besides, the author also builds the entity-relationship data model for this module, and designs the important interfaces of the system.The fifth part of the research is the process evaluation module, including diagnostic evaluation, performance evaluation and simulation evaluation. This part focuses on the diagnosis and evaluation. According to the information reflected in the value stream, author designs evaluation indicators, analyzes sources of the data that can calculate them, and shows the basic flow and data flow of this module. In addition, this section explored the simulation evaluation, analysis of the basic ideas and features, and gives an example to show its function in parameter selection.Part six summarizes the research results, analysis of the lack of research and put forward the prospects for the future content and direction.
